Senate Democrats have proposed new legislation, the Clean Cloud Act, that would charge fees on data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations exceeding federal emissions standards. The bill targets facilities with over 100KW of installed IT power. Penalties start at $20 per TON of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and increase annually. This comes as power demands from these operations continue to rise in the United States.
